How to Order a Copy of Your Georgia Driving Record
If you are convicted of a Gwinnett County driving under the influence (DUI) offense, not only will your criminal record be affected—discover how to order a copy of your Georgia driving record to see how it is also affected. Once the insurance company views them and finds your prior convictions, you may be forced to pay increased premiums or your insurance policy could even be cancelled. The fortunate thing is that, unlike a criminal record, your DUI conviction will drop off of your driving record once a certain period of time has elapsed. This means that your insurance rates will go back to normal and you are no longer classified as a “high-risk” driver. You can order a copy to determine if it is accurate and to verify that your DUI offense no longer shows up.
The Department of Driver Services gives you three options to order them: in person, online, and by mail.
To request a copy of your driving record in person, go to a DDS customer service and present your identification. Please note that while all customer service centers accept MasterCard and Visa, you should call the center you wish to visit beforehand if you want to use American Express.
To request it online, you will need to create an account on the DDS website. Once the account is created, you can log in to order a copy of your record. There is a viewable version that is available for 30 days; however, this uncertified version may not be accepted by your employer or insurer. To order the viewable version, the fee is $6 for a three-year history or $8 for a seven-year history. The DDS website accepts all major credit cards.
If you need to order a certified version of your Georgia driving record for employment or insurance purposes, you can do this online, though it will not be a viewable version. The DDS will mail your certified record to you or a third party if requested. Ordering a certified copy costs the same amount as ordering the viewable version.
To request a copy of it by mail, you can send a letter or the DDS-18 form to the DDS. You should include your name, date of birth, address, driver’s license number, and a self-addressed stamped envelope as well as whether you are requesting a three-year or seven-year history.
